The Company:

Planetary Transportation Systems GmbH is a German new-space company whose aim is to democratize access to space and bring down the cost of space exploration. Planetary Transportation Systems GmbH is a privately held company, and our goal is to show that it is possible to build a sustainable business in space exploration. As well as delivering cheaper and more regular opportunities for academics, industry and educational institutions to conduct in-space research, we are keen to develop the infrastructure required for future settlement on the Moon and beyond.


Your Tasks:

Mechanical and Thermal Engineering

  • Coordinate with electronics designers to ensure housing design matches PCB needs
  • Design electronics housing including PCB mounting points, connector cutouts, spacecraft mounting, and handling points.
  • Work with vendors to procure casing in line with quality standards
  • Own mechanical and thermal requirements and conduct flow down of requirements to meet internal design and requirements verification needs
  • Perform FEA and thermal analysis of case design and PCB to ensure mechanical stability while subject to launch and deployment loads
  • Support Quality Process
    Assist Quality Manager in defining processes for our Quality System, including material/parts inspection, handling, manufacture, etc.

MAIT Support

  • Assembly of prototype and flight hardware
  • Inspection and maintenance of documentation during MAIT processes
  • Support qualification and testing campaigns: liaising with sites to ensure test equipment suitability, identification of processes and test plans, equipment inspection.


Your Profile:

  • Degree in mechanical/industrial engineering or related field.
  • Experience in:
    • designing electronic housing including PCB mounting points and connector cutouts
    • communication with vendors to procure in line with quality standard
    • product assurance for mechanical systems
    • thermal analyses for electronics
  • Good English speaking and writing skills
  • Good ability to work as a team: reliability, flexibility, and commitment
  • Bonus:
    • Experience designing, manufacturing, and testing flight hardware
    • Experience participating in design reviews
    • Working with standards/design rules (ECSS)
